A reader wrote: I bought a new Hohner travel banjo off of ebay. The headstock was badly broken back side at the nut. Price was $125.00, but no big deal. I worked in the custom shop at Gibson in Nashville so I've probably reglued 100 Les Pauls, Mastertones & etc. Just to let you know, the Hohner was very poorly put together. You would have to be a card carrying luthier to prep that banjo to where it is playable. It turned out OK, but I had several hours time in it. The scale is 19 3/4. I enjoyed your read, Thanks! ------------------------------- Thanks for telling me about the Hohner. I have tweaked more than one Hohner instrument, and I agree, they generally take a certain amount of talent and experience to make playable. Sadly, I've had similar experiences with "better" brands. Are you using the banjo now that you've rebuilt it? Does it meet your needs? - Paul |
