I was wondering how much my Cameo banjo is worth? It has a golden eagle with stars on the back of it.

------------------------------------------------

Cameo was a generic brand of Asian-made banjos that popular "entry-level" instruments in the 1960s. In fact, my first banjo was a Cameo. That said, it's similar to Global and early Aria banjos (though Aria made some nicer ones toward the end). Many of the Japanese and Korean banjos of that era shared the same hardware, and it's certain that some of the factories turned out banjos under several different brand names. None of those have collectors' value today.

My article on determining the value of your banjo can help you get pretty close by looking at what similar instruments are selling for on e-Bay.

Here in the Springfield, OH area (not so far from you), similar banjos tend to go from $75 to $175 depending on their condition and how playable they are.

If you want to send me photos, I can help you narrow it down a little futher.

Have a great day,
