Elizabeth Cotton's "Freight Train" now has an article on ClassicTrainSongs.com, including links to several very nice versions and - until they take it down - a very strange link to a UK SKiffle band's performance in the 1950s. During my research, I rediscovered a Peter, Paul and Mary version that is now my favorite cover. http://classictrainsongs.com/freight_tr ... _train.htm |

I learned a nice version of this song from a "Fingerstyle Guitar of Dave Von Ronk" songbook. Spike Driver's Moan and Candyman were also in that book. I don't think that book is available now. It must be out of print. If anyone is interested, I find time to write it out and take a picture of it for you. |

Susan, One reason people struggle with that is that Cotton played a right-handed guitar left-handed so it was hard to duplicate exactly. With Dave Van Ronk's double-thumbing, he might have come close. Do you think it gives the same effect of Cotton's picking? Either way, it would be great to have. Thanks, Paul |
