Thank you for the reviews of tenor guitars. Not happy with my Ibanez and looking to upgrade. (I have it Chicago tuned, and it sounds like a toy.)
I play the electric viola and the 4 string tenor guitar
Have you tried playing your Ibanez in Viola tuning? That's how they were meant to be played, and they go an octave lower than your guitar goes in "Chicago tuning."
Yes, the thing is a little undersized, but it is solid topped, and, frankly, as big as many of the early Tenor guitars.
You might want to try Viola tuning on it at least once before you spend the money on an upgrade.
Think about it - your viola provides a full sound down to low C, and this instrument is bigger.
Just sayin'. I assume you already saw my article at: https://creekdontrise.com/acoustic/teno ... guitar.htm
as well as the resources listed under the "For More Information" header?
Let me know how things work out for you one way or another.

OK! I tuned mine to CGDA, and at initial observation, it sounds MUCH better! Ha! My rebellious nature led to months of learning chords that, should I stick with this, will not be needed. Ahhh thank you. I shall see how I feel about it over the longer term. So glad I found your info.
