We don't usually talk a lot about Jazz chords on this site, but a friend named Rich Ralston, a guitarist and luthier from New Zealand has made a seven-chapter tutorial available that a lot of folks could find helpful.

Richard Ralston, who offered the free lessons on "Jazzin' Your Blues" has made an arrangement of Jimmy Van Heusen's "I Throught About You" available. He writes:
--------------------------
You may remember I recently sent you a link to a video of me playing a tune called 'I Thought About You' by Jimmy Van Heusen on a new guitar I'm making for Vince Lewis. . . . I did get some really great comments and a few people told me that they would love to be able to play this tune and asked me for the transcription.

So, finally here it is...

I've written two charts to hopefully make it easier for you to learn this tune.

1. The chords - in the positions I play them in the video. http://www.ralstonguitars.com/wp-conten ... Chords.pdf

2. The complete transcription - You might find a few small differences, but then that's jazz isn't it? :-)

And here is the link for you to have another look at the video if you would like to: 'I Thought About You' by Jimmy Van Heusen https://ralstonguitars.wistia.com/medias/e75lmyqttl

I hope you have fun playing this tune.

Rich has sent an alternative way of playing The Bbmaj7 in bar 9 of the arrangement above.

Here's a set of exercises from Rich Ralston, of Ralston Guitars:

I hope you've been enjoying the downloads I've sent you over the last couple of weeks.

Here's another one. It's called 'Harmonising The Bb Major Scale'.

You can download it by clicking this link:

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=BrITs& ... R3HtRf29ww

It's all about how to play a chord on each note of the Bb major scale, how to add melody notes above them, how to use them to comp through your favourite tunes, and how to use them to start creating your own solo jazz guitar arrangements.

It contains:

24 exercises - so you can play the chords all over the neck.
2 charts to help you apply your learning.
'Autumn Shells' an arrangement of a well known standard.
An arrangement of the Bb Blues.

Now here's the deal...

As you can imagine it takes a lot of time to write this material. So please download it, play through it and...

Email me. Tell me what you think of it and please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

So, what are you waiting for?
