About the Author

Paul with GuitarPaul D. Race grew up along the National Road, within a stone's throw of one of the original toll house locations and next door to a former stage coach stop. Paul also grew up in a music-loving family with a huge collection of folk music records. As a teenager, he taught himself on a borrowed guitar, and he has been composing and performing ever since. He has also learned to play sax, base, 5-string banjo, flute, and harmonica. As a writer and teacher, Paul has taught music subjects, given guitar lessons, and written about music and musical instruments.

Paul has also been a fan of musical theatre most of his life, having assisted in set-building, accompanying, and performing in countless local productions.

If the Creek Don't Rise is a musical tribute to the pioneer spirit that is still alive in the American Midwest. The fact that Paul still lives along the National Road, virtually sandwiched between historical markers, made the setting obvious.

Like most musicians, Paul pays the bills with day jobs. He is a professional writer, and he teaches writing and literature at a local college.
