Play an MP3 clip of 'If the Creek Don't Rise' as arranged for banjo.

(A Musical in Two Acts)

The estranged family of an aging musician confronts their past and their present when they gather at an old National Road toll house to sort through a deceased aunt's belongings. Jokes abound, tempers flare, songs ring out, and problems generally sort themselves out by the end of the night.

This "folksy," upbeat production also pays homage to "twelve generations of explorers, groundbreakers, and builders, who with nothing but hard work, faith, and dreams, created the heart and backbone of a nation."

We are now looking for venues, especially those with a historical relationship or proximity to the National Road. We are especially interested in coordinating our outreach with the National Road Corridor projects and other comemorative events scheduled before and during the National Road's upcoming 200th anniversary.

Features

Other features of the play which make it especially suitable for festivals, community theatre, and dinner theatres include:

  • Small Ensemble: 3 men, 3 women (one African-American), one "10-year-old" girl.
  • Single-set Production, suitable for dinner theatre, long-running community theatre production, or (with proper set design) touring company.
  • Family-Oriented
  • Historical--recommended for production in conjunction with historical festivals, etc., especially in the U.S. Midwest.
  • Acoustically based music--appeals especially to "Baby Boomers" and fans of traditional music, although there are elements targeted to younger audiences. Also removes the logistic and scheduling issues associated with using an orchestra.

If you are interested in sponsoring a reading or a production, please contact us for more detailed information, for reading copies of the script, song demos, etc.
